Adopt a Less-Adoptable Pet Week is around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to raise awareness about the benefits of adopting less adoptable pets such as senior pets, FIV cats, and special needs animals.
As the week approaches, here are the reasons why you should add these pets that fall into these categories to your family.
1. HAVING OLDER PETS HAVE ADVANTAGES OVER HAVING YOUNGER PETS
Age is one of the common factors why senior dogs and cats do not get adopted from shelters. People tend to like younger pets more since they have full of energy and tend to be fun. But hey, older pets have advantages too! Most older pets are house-trained or litter-box trained even before adoption. Most also know basic obedience training. This prior training means less work for you and your busy life.
Pets that have health issues are often overlooked. Whether the animal is faced with an incurable, but a manageable illness or a neurological issue, these animals require more care. An illness rarely stops a dog or cat from giving unconditional love to the people around them.
3. BLACK PETS KNOW HOW TO LOVE TOO.There are several superstitions about the Black Dog Syndrome, which are applicable to cats too. The following are some of the most common: the animals' facial features, the commonness of a black pet, and media portrayal of black dogs and cats being associated with bad luck and the supernatural. However, black-coated pets are just as friendly and loving as any other shelter animal. Don’t let superstition deprive them of getting the love they deserve!
4. YOU’LL GET A GREAT ANIMALDid you know that animal shelters or rescue centers are filled with happy and loving pets that are just waiting for someone to take them home? Many of these shelter pets end up there because of a human problem that pets cannot control, such as they moved to another country, it is not because the animals did anything wrong.
